HALIFAX - Nova Scotia Power awarded the latest in a series of long-term contracts to add wind power to the provincial grid to a joint venture by Skypower Corp. and Scotian Windfields Inc. The two contractors will build a 30 MW wind park near Rossway in the Municipality of Digby that could provide wind-powered electricity to 10,000 Nova Scotian homes, according to a statement released by Nova Scotia Power. The 20-turbine 2,700-acre wind park is expected to be operational by late 2009.

“With this project we have reached our goal of signed contracts for another 240 MW of installed wind capacity,” said Ralph Tedesco, president and CEO of Nova Scotia Power on May 14. “By the end of 2009, the province will have five times the amount of wind energy that exists today serving an additional 80,000 homes from renewable generation.”

The contract between Nova Scotia Power and the joint venture partners is 20 years long, the same length of the contract recently given to Shear Wind Inc., who will build a 30-turbine park near Merigomish. And earlier in May, Nova Scotia Power announced Accionia...
